The Pear app
Pear records only after you start a capture or enable its automatic meeting detection. Audio, transcripts, and session metadata are stored in Pear’s local app container on your Mac. Pear does not require an account and does not send this content to Roman Birg.
Transcription
Pear 1.0 transcribes on your Mac with Apple’s on-device speech recognition. It does not offer a remote transcription option and does not send recordings or transcripts to Roman Birg or a third-party transcription service.
Website analytics
pear.fyi collects limited, first-party usage metrics so we can understand whether the site is useful. We record the page, visit session, referrer domain, country code supplied by the hosting network, device class, browser family, operating-system family, language, time zone, campaign tags when present, and page performance measurements such as Core Web Vitals.
These measurements use Pear’s existing first-party operational counter and a self-hosted Umami service. The operational counter uses a random identifier that lasts only for the current browser tab. Umami uses no cookies and does not create cross-site profiles. Both systems run on Roman Birg’s infrastructure; analytics are not sent to Umami Cloud or another advertising or analytics provider.
Network addresses and user-agent headers are processed briefly to derive anonymous session, device, and coarse location measurements, but we do not store raw IP addresses or full user-agent strings as analytics fields. Analytics do not include names, email addresses, support messages, advertising identifiers, or account identifiers. Browser Do Not Track is honored, and URL search parameters and fragments are excluded from Umami page URLs. The separate operational counter records length-limited campaign tags when supplied in a link.
When you follow an App Store link on our home or campaign page, Umami records the button location. If that page URL has a recognized Pear campaign and source tag, the click also records those preset categories. Other query values, free text, and identifiers are not included in this click event. We read these tags only on that page when you click; we do not save them in your browser or carry them across visits. These counts show interest in the App Store listing, not whether you downloaded or purchased Pear. Blocking analytics does not prevent the link from opening.
Past release notices
Pear’s pre-release availability form is closed and no longer accepts email addresses. If you previously requested a release notice, the email address and signup time you provided remain in Pear’s private website database only while the promised release notice and related deletion or unsubscribe work are completed. They remain separate from website analytics and are not sold.
You can ask for an existing release-notice address to be deleted by emailing [email protected].
Support requests
If you use the support form, we store the email address, topic, message, and submission time you provide in Pear’s private website database. This information is kept separate from analytics and used only to respond to and resolve your request.
Network addresses may be processed briefly in memory to limit abuse, but are not stored with support requests. Request data is retained only as long as reasonably necessary to provide support and maintain a record of the resolution.
Purchases
Pear is available through the Mac App Store. Apple processes purchase and payment information under its App Store privacy terms and provides developers with purchase reporting. Pear and pear.fyi do not process or collect your payment-card details.
Retention and choices
Website analytics are retained for up to 90 days and used only to improve Pear and its website. Browser privacy controls that block scripts or requests may also block the analytics event; the site remains fully usable. Disaster-recovery backups rotate under a separate limited retention schedule and are not used for analytics.
